Why Do You Need A Mobile Website?
It won't be long before more people are surfing the 'net on smart phones and tablets than on personal computers. A lot of cell phone users don't even have a computer. Although its possible to view a standard website on these devices, its hardly fair to your potential customers to expect them to do so.
Mobile devices need fast downloading pages with minimum content to overcome poor connections and monthly download limits. Navigation and other user input needs to be via fingertip sized buttons. Slideshows should be capable of being navigated by finger swiping and other media, such as movies and music need to use suitable file formats and players since most mobile devices can't use flash.
Contact forms need special inputs to launch the various keypads on mobile phones and are often better replaced by an email me button.
Since all portable devices are not created equal, websites need to fit a variety of screen widths. The designs shown here do this by being fluid or by using columns that self adjust so that the web pages fit all screen widths from a smart phone to an iPad. Unlike a lot of others, these designs adapt to all devices so that it isn't necessary to have different versions of the site to suit each one. This can be very convenient and cost effective for many small businesses allowing one size to fit all.
